Agra

A city of great contrasts, Agra was the former capital of the Mogul Empire. Here stands the world’s finest monument to love, The Taj Mahal, built by Emperor Shah Jehan in memory of his beautiful wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died whilst giving birth to her fourteenth child. This extravagant monument, completed in 1648, took 20,000 craftsmen 18 years to build.

Some of the direct descendants of those craftsmen still employ the same methods and materials to make beautiful ornaments and furniture out of marble and we thoroughly recommend a visit to one of their workshops. They are also responsible for restoring and maintaining the Taj Mahal.
