Ayesha Mansil, Tellicherry

Built in 1862 by a trader from the East India Company, this former judge’s house has just six bedrooms and overlooks the Arabian Sea. It is an excellent base from which to explore some of the best-kept secrets of Northern Kerala. Your hosts Moosa and Faizal take you to the local fish and spice markets to choose the ingredients for the delicious meals to be enjoyed later in the day. Other interesting places to visit include the nearby temples where dramatic and colourful Theyyam dances are regularly performed, weaving factories where local fabrics can be purchased and the bede (Indian cigarette) rolling workshop. The food here is excellent and cookery courses can be worked into the itinerary. |
