Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a Sanscrit word meaning the ‘study of the prolongation of life’. This traditional Indian medicine was developed by ancient sages through keen observation of the human body and its functions and has been part of the way of life in the south Indian state of Kerala for over 5000 years. The aim is not only to cure any particular condition but also to ensure that those who receive the treatments enjoy healthy, well balanced physical and mental lives.

Some hotels have ayurvedic centres where treatments, ranging from one massage to a three week course, can be undertaken. They employ highly trained staff working under the supervision of a qualified vaidyar (ayurvedic physician) who is available to discuss health issues and recommend appropriate treatment for conditions such as arthritis, blood pressure, migraine, backache and stress. There is a variety of therapies on offer. Particularly popular are the rejuvenation and weight reduction programmes. We would be delighted to recommend such hotels and to work a suitable stay there into your itinerary.
