The Maldives Islands are a mosaic of turquoise, sapphire and aquamarine, brilliant emeralds and sparkling diamonds – 1,192 coral islands scattered like a jewelled necklace, discarded on the surface of the Indian Ocean. The number of islands has actually been estimated at somewhere between 1,300 and 13,000 depending upon whether sand-banks, which protrude above the water, are included!
95 of these islands have been set aside for tourism and, as a general rule, there is one resort per island. The quality of the accommodation and facilities on offer varies from the simple to the sublime and there is something to suit all tastes and budgets. Although variety is certainly the spice of life, too much choice often leads to confusion and indecision - and that is where we come in!
