Delhi

The sprawling capital of India is a city of many contrasts. The seat of Indian power, New Delhi, has magnificent parliamentary buildings designed to reflect major landmarks from all over the world, with hints of the Arc de Triumph, Buckingham Palace and even the government buildings of Pretoria. Old Delhi is steeped in tradition with the Red Fort towering over the winding alleyways and the intriguing Jama Masjid Mosque.

Ancient fortresses, majestic buildings and historic ruins blend with the tall skyscrapers, diplomatic enclaves and well planned townships to make up the city of Delhi. Popular Hindu mythology states that Delhi was the site of the fabled city of Indraprastha, which featured in the Mahabharata over 3000 years ago. Present day Delhi is built around the ruins of seven ancient cities.
