From the 16th – 19th centuries, Hoi An drew merchants from as far afield as India, Japan, Indonesia and Europe to trade in silk, spices and porcelain. The town is beautifully preserved, retaining much of its charm, and has been listed a World Heritage site by UNESCO. At night, traditional Chinese lanterns illuminate the streets and one can while away the hours over a coffee watching the world go by. Have a new wardrobe tailor-made, wander through the Japanese, Chinese and French quarters or simply browse in the many colourful shops for local artwork and souvenirs. Some of the main sights include the Chinese Assembly Hall, the covered bridge built by the Japanese, local ‘ancestral homes’ and the nearby Cua Dai beach.
