Horathapola Estate, Kurenegala

A lovely plantation house that has been in the family for over 100 years. Surrounded by a large lawn with lush vegetation and shady trees, the house is still part of a functioning estate. 4 bedrooms lead out onto terracotta tiled balconies and the white walls, exposed black wooden beams and spacious, modern bathrooms give them a cool and sophisticated feel. Guests are invited to dine wherever they wish. Meals are prepared the traditional way in clay pots on a firewood stove and many of the ingredients are home grown and prepared. A range of western dishes is also available on request. Possible activities include exploring the estate on a bullock cart, wandering around the nearby village temples, visiting a copra factory or just exploring the surrounding area by bicycle.
