Houseboat

The best way to explore the backwaters is by houseboat. Traditional rice boats, kettuvallams, have been converted by local carpenters. The accommodation comprises a double bedroom, bathroom and a sitting room complete with its own sun-deck. The sides can be opened to ensure a cool breeze and panoramic views of the passing scenery. There is a more spacious design available with two bedrooms and an upper sun deck. Guests are looked after by a crew of three and delicious traditional Keralan meals are served, including freshly caught fish bought from passing fisherman. Whether an exploratory overnight cruise through narrow canals or a gentle circumnavigation of the calm waters of Lake Vembanad, a leisurely journey by kettuvallam is a unique way to observe rural life on the Backwaters of Kerala. |
