India has several national parks where the visitor can be introduced to the natural splendours of the subcontinent. Although the tiger is, to many, the main attraction of Indian Wildlife, it is by no means the only species to admire. The Asiatic lion can be found in Gujurat, herds of elephant in the southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, and the Indian rhinoceros still roams the plains of Kaziranga. Bison, sambar deer, jackals, leopards, panthers, wild dogs and bears can also be found and the birdlife is prolific.

The map illustrates the position of the main National Parks within the 'Project Tiger' conservation programme and each has good access points and facilities for tourism. The topography of each is hugely different from one another - from the tall elephant grass of Kaziranga, the Bamboo and Sal forests of Kanha and Bandhavgarh, the undulating scrubland of Pench and the thick, sub-tropical forests of the southern parks.

Tourism is undoubtedly one of the major factors helping preserve the natural habitat of endangered species by generating an estimated £85 million for the Indian economy and by increasing the general awareness of the Tiger’s plight. However, it is often exploited by a handful of unscrupulous operators and it is our endeavour to ensure the impact of our guests visit to these areas is kept to a minimum. By working with reputable lodges, members of the TOFT programme and key naturalists within India, we ensure that our clients have the best possible experience in a responsible and sustainable way.
