A small town in the Nilgiri Mountains and less developed than other hill stations, Munnar has a sleepy atmosphere in a picturesque setting. Formerly the summer resort of the British Government in South India, sprawling tea gardens, picture book towns and winding lanes contribute to its popularity. Neelakurunji, the flower which bathes the hills in blue once every twelve years, is among the flora. The surrounding tea and cardamom plantations can be explored at a leisurely pace. Munnar also has the highest peak in South India. At 2695m, Anamudi is ideal for trekking.
