Nisala Arana, Bentota

A charming heritage homestay that allows an insight into local life in a small village away from the tourist trail. The property is a classic Dutch colonial house that used to be the home of the village doctor. Accommodation is modest but comfortable. The pool is set in large gardens and home cooked meals are served in the adjoining pavilion, which is the centre of life on the property. Your host, a delightful Sri Lankan born Australian, is a wealth of local knowledge and history and often organises cultural events in the gardens. While most guests are perfectly happy simply relaxing in the lush surroundings, there is enough to engage the more energetic, including river cruises and watersports on the nearby Bentota River, strolling to ancient temples and even badminton.
