Surrounded by undulating hills, forests and the wide boulder-strewn Betwa River, this sleepy village has much to show of its glorious past. Founded in 1531, it remained the capital city of the Kingdom of the Bundelas until 1783 and retains an impressive number of well-preserved palaces and temples. Being off the beaten track, it is surprisingly uncrowded and a pleasure to explore at a leisurely pace.
