Tailor made holidays to Rajasthan, India

Rajasthan constitutes most of the area known as The Golden Triangle and is one of the most colourful and picturesque regions of India. Most of the state comprises the magnificent Thar Desert – part of the sand belt which encircles the world. The arid landscape, dominated by the jagged skyline of the Aravalli Mountains, contrasts with the tranquillity of placid blue lakes and cool, shady gardens.

The vivid turbans of the Rajputs, a group of warrior clans who controlled this area for a thousand years, the vibrant saris of the women and the intricately painted temple elephants combine into a kaleidoscope of colour.

The area is steeped in the history of the martial Rajputs and tales of treachery and courage abound, witnessed by the multitude of majestic palaces and forts. Many of these have since been converted into luxurious hotels, some still owned and managed by the descendant families. Such magnificent fortresses, painted havelis (merchants’ houses) and the astounding beauty of its legendary monuments rightly make Rajasthan one of India’s most visited areas.

Of particular interest is the Pink City of Jaipur where the magnificent Amer Palace, City Palace complex and Royal Observatory are to be found. In the Blue City of Jodhpur, to the west, the finest example of Rajasthan’s architecture, the Mehrangarh Fort, dominates the city skyline and deeper into the sands of the Thar Desert, the outpost of Jaisalmer will enchant and inspire.

If you are in search of the illusive Tiger, Ranthambhore National Park offers perhaps the best opportunity of seeing these majestic cats in the wild.

Off the beaten track in Rajasthan will unearth some of the countries finest places to stay and it is in the rural communities that a true understanding of what life is really like in this part of the world is revealed. Chhatra Sagar is an experience that gets positive feedback from everyone who ventures there, as does the Rohet Garh and Shapura Bargh.

For the ultimate in contemporary luxury look no further than Mihir Garh, The Serai, Raas and the Tree of Life, all proving that Indian hospitality is cutting edge.

The Palaces of Rajasthan that have been converted into luxurious hotels offer the visitor the opportunity to discover regal luxury from bygone times – the Samode Palace, Rambagh Palace, Umaid Bhawan, Shiv Niwas Palace.

Take a look at these itineraries that give you the opportunity to explore Rajasthan at your own pace and in your own style – Regal Rajasthan, Palaces and Palms, Mughal Splendour Rajput Glory and Rural Rajasthan or call us to begin planning your perfect holiday to Rajasthan.
