Sinharaja is the largest expanse of lowland rainforest remaining in Sri Lanka and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1988. Located in the southwest lowland wet zone, it is a critically important site for a vast number of endemic fauna and flora, which would otherwise be under threat of deforestation.
