A Taste of Sri Lanka - Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya & Bentota

A ten night holiday to the tea plantations of Sri Lanka, including a night in a boutique hotel in Colombo, two nights exploring the arts and crafts of Kandy, a delightful morning train journey, a night in each of the four Tea Trails bungalows, a private flight down to the coast in a light aircraft and three nights in a boutique hotel in Bentota.

Day 01 Depart London Heathrow for Colombo.  

Day 02 You will be met on arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel. More on Colombo Galle Face Hotel

Day 03 You will be met on arrival in Colombo and transferred into the interior of the island, to Kandy. This is an interesting journey, travelling thorough rural areas and small villages. Each one specialises in a different local industry, such as cashew nuts, pineapples and reed weaving. Galle Face Hotel

Day 04 You will have the opportunity to visit the Elephant Orphanage.

In the evening, you will be taken to the Temple of the Tooth to see the blessing ceremony with all the fanfare, drums, trumpets and brightly coloured Monks performing their rituals.

You will also have the chance to visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, which were the naturally camouflaged operations HQ of SEAC Supreme Allied Commander, Lord Louis Mountbatten, during the Second World War and to see a cultural show whilst in Kandy.More on Kandy

Day 05 You will be met at the hotel and transferred to the station in time to catch the narrow gauge train to Hatton. This is not the quickest route, but is by far the best way of doing this leg of your journey as the views are spectacular and the railway follows a different route to the often busy road. The driver will take your luggage and will meet you at the other end.

In the afternoon, you can visit a local tea factory to see how the world’s most popular hot beverage is grown, plucked and processed before being bagged and packaged.

Day 08 During the day, you will have the opportunity to walk from bungalow to bungalow or perhaps to see some of the sights of the area.

There are abundant opportunites for adventurous activities such as biking, kayaking, white water rafting and trekking, as well as a chance to visit the famous Dilmah tea factory to learn more about the art and science of tea. It is also a fine area in which to engage in a spot of birdwatching or even for the more energetic a chance to climb to the top of nearby ‘Adams Peak’.

Day 09 You will be transferred to Lake Gregory to meet the air taxi that will fly you to Bentota. Here you will be met and transferred to your hotel. More on Bentota  Tea Trails

Day 12 You will be met and transferred back to the airport in Colombo in time to check in for your flight to London Heathrow.  Club Villa
